Third Grade in Room 16 !
I am so excited to be back in third grade again this year!
Third graders are at the perfect age: young enough to still have a sense of wonder about the world, yet old enough to read & work with some degree of independence. This year, we will read & discuss children's literature in book clubs and then use our reading skills to build & strengthen our writing. We will do book reports, research reports and group presentations. We will discover science through non-fiction text & hands-on experimentation. We will learn about our California environment and how the indigenous people of the past made use of the resources in our region. We will use technology tools to research & create multimedia projects (yet we will still learn traditional cursive writing!). We will master our multiplication facts, practice traditional regrouping in addition & subtraction, and apply problem-solving strategies to practical math applications. We will also explore art, music, world culture, and self-expression in various ways. This is the perfect time in a person's life to "learn how to learn" - to develop and interest and to begin to pursue it on one's own.
After seeing first hand what the students need to learn as they move ahead to fourth & fifth grade, and after experiencing my own daughter's third grade year as a parent, I feel that I am quite ready for the task at hand. I am as eager and excited as the bright, shining eyes of the wonderful third graders in our class this year. It's going to be a good one!
I look forward to collaborating with our class parents in many ways this year. The door is always open, so come on in!
